Disappointing

We stayed for 2 nights in the Rose Hotel, chosen mainly due to the many recommendations I had seen from other coeliacs. I have been in this hotel before and always liked it but I am not the coeliac in my family so didn’t have to consider this previously. It was their first week of opening after the Covid lockdown so maybe that impacted on our experience. From a general hotel perspective they were great, lovely hotel, friendly staff and lovely room. But this review is about food! We ate 1 lunch, 1 dinner and 2 breakfasts in the hotel. The experience was very mixed. My daughter is very picky but they had GF chips that they assured were fried separately. So that was a plus. However, at dinner, my daughter wanted toast and chips only – the rest of us had finished our meal before hers arrived (she is 6!!). Lots of apologies but no explanation of why it took so long. They did give her (and her brother) complimentary jelly & ice cream by way of apology. My husband (also GF) had a steak sandwich which was a whole steak in 2 slices of bread! He said it was nice, but a little disappointing as you know the size of a slice of GF bread – the steak is bigger! The choice was limited overall and they acknowledged that their menu was reduced as they opened back up. The worst came at breakfast on the last day when the service was so poor. We waited patiently as we watched people that came in after us eat their breakfast without us getting even a cup of coffee. I know that GF can often delay in the kitchen but this was ridiculous. The final straw came when they served GF toast that had mould on it. Needless to say we left after that. So I was disappointed and wouldn’t return unfortunately as it is a lovely hotel. I hope it was just the wrong week for us! On a positive note (despite the mould) no one was sick so I can only assume they have good controls in place in the kitchen.
